Hiring a magician for a wedding is becoming more and more popular as couples look for fun and different wedding entertainment ideas to entertain their guests and make their wedding day one to remember.

Everyone loves magic and inviting a wedding magician along to your big day can create a real buzz and fantastic talking point to break the ice and get guests chatting and meeting one another.

Nowadays I perform at around 50 weddings every year all over the country and further afield. They’re definitely one of my favourite types of events to perform at.

On this page I’m going to describe a few of the times that tend to work best and answer some common questions about hiring a magician for your wedding.

When to have a magician at a wedding

When it comes to timings there are a three options that tend to work best. These are dependant on a few factors like what else you have going on during the wedding and how many guests you’re inviting etc.

If you want to chat about your specific requirements, just get in touch and I’ll be happy to advise which slot or slots could work better for your wedding.

The Drinks Reception

During the drinks reception at wedding is an ideal time for me to perform as magic works as a fantastic ice breaker.

Most of the time your guests won’t know each other and magic creates an instant talking point to help break the ice, get people chatting and having fun.

I’ll stroll amongst the groups, bringing people together and introducing guests to one and other. I’m always keeping an eye out for people who seem to be on their own so I can get them involved too.

I will usually perform for groups of around three to six people at a time and will do about four to six minutes worth of tricks depending on how many guests you have.

I’ll want to ensure that I get around to everyone and that no one misses out on seeing me.

This part of the wedding tends to last around 90 minutes to two hours, but obviously, each wedding is totally different and I can be very flexible with timings.

The Wedding Breakfast

The next option for me to perform is during the wedding breakfast going around from table to table performing a short show in-between the courses of the meal.

This is another chance for me to break the ice between guests on the table that might not know each other and get them talking.

Depending on how many guests you have, I’ll typically do around five or so minute performance for each table. I’ll then go back for round two or three later in the meal.

This part of the wedding will normally last around two hours but, it depends on how many guests you’re having, if it’s a three course meal or buffet and how hungry your guests are!

The Evening Party

Lastly, we have the evening party, another great time to have me come and keep your guests entertained with some close up magic.

I’ve found that the best time for me to perform is in the gap between the end of speeches and the first dance. Quite often the venue will need some time to turn the room around for the wedding band or DJ and so I’ll fill this gap.

Again, each wedding is totally different but this part of the day tends to last around 90 minutes so is an opportune time for me to stroll amongst the guests.

You might be having some evening guests that you weren’t able to invite to the meal so I’ll introduce them to the guests, breaking the ice and creating a talking point to keep everyone occupied before the evening party gets in full swing.

My Wedding Packages and Prices

I have a few options when it comes to weddings prices and packages so get in touch and I’ll email you my wedding brochure with the most common timings that tend to work best.

I understand that everyone’s wedding day is totally unique though so I am more than happy to suggest when might be better for your wedding if you’re doing something different.

I aim to respond to all enquiries within 12 hours (Monday – Friday) but if I’m on an event it might be slightly longer.

Wedding Magician FAQs

What Areas Do You Cover?

I’m based in Surrey, just on the edge of London. Most of the weddings I do are in the surrounding counties like Hampshire, Sussex, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Kent, Wiltshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Essex.

But I regularly travel further for weddings. I don’t charge much extra, just a bit of petrol money to cover my travel expenses.

How Far In Advance Should We Book?

The earlier the better. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (especially in the summer months) get booked up quite far in advance so get in touch as early as you can and I’ll put the date on pencil for you.

Can we meet you and see you perform before we book?

You absolutely can. I’m based in Godalming in Surrey (near Guildford) so can meet you around here for a coffee and a demo.

Or, I do a lot of corporate events up in central London on weekdays so can meet you up there too. I don’t charge anything for these meetings.

How Do We Book You?

It’s really easy. First, fill out my enquiry form and let me know as many details about your wedding as you can. I’ll send you over my wedding brochure and we can chat about when will best best for me to perform and timings.

If you want to go ahead then I’ll send you a booking form and I ask for a £150 deposit. After you’ve got both of those back to me we’re good to go!

What if you’re ill on our wedding day?

I’ve actually never missed a wedding due to being ill. Being self-employed if I don’t get to work I can’t pay my rent. For that reason I recommend Berocca (especially in December!)

If the worst did happen and I couldn’t make it I have a great network of magician friends that I can arrange to stand in for me. Thankfully though, I’ve never had to call on any of them and I plan on keeping it that way.

Are You Insured?

Yes I’m fully insured with Public Liability Insurance (PLI) covering up to £5,000,000 through BlackFriars Insurance Group. If you or the venue need a copy of my policy just let me know and I’ll send it over.
